Humans like bees are social beings. Biologists say that company is as important to the bee as honey, and that if we completely isolate an individual in the honeycomb, no matter how much food and shelter it has, a few days later it will be sad to death.

Like us, bees distribute their tasks efficiently, in the same way that humans specialize in trades and work cooperatively. Also, we could say that their hives are very similar to our collective housing buildings, where we group together to share resources, experiences and spaces.

Let’s become bees, cuddling one another and building the structure of a rich honeycomb. You will see how much fun it is to work as a team with a common goal!

In this exercise of maximums and minimums, we will find the geometry of the hexagon and the circle. Bees do not know about hexagons, but they build soft cylinders that, when supported by one another, compress with their six neighbors until they become hexagonal.

With “the spirit of the hive” we will discover the importance of the individual in the community. The sum of small efforts and the sum of individualities, will finally make up the honeycomb. In the house of this infinite swarm of small workers, who release nectar and produce honey, we will surely find many points in common with humans and their ways of grouping in the form of society.

Steps:

• Print 2 templates for each “bee” of the honeycomb. It is recommended to use a thick paper.
• Cut the continuous lines and double the discontinuous ones.
• Use the stapler to join the cells.
• Print some templates of hexagonal caps and place them in the cells.
• On another card, draw a small bee and now … do you want to play to be part of this community?

El Espíritu de la Colmena

Los humanos como las abejas somos seres sociales. Dicen los biólogos, que la compañía es tan importante para la abeja como la miel, y que si se aísla completamente a un individuo en el panal, por mucha comida y abrigo que tenga, a los pocos días se entristecerá hasta morir.

Como nosotros, las abejas reparten sus tareas de manera eficiente, del mismo modo que los humanos se especializan en los oficios y trabajan cooperativamente. También, podríamos decir que sus colmenas se parecen mucho a nuestros edificios colectivos de vivienda, donde nos agrupamos para compartir recursos, vivencias y espacios.

Convirtámonos en abejas acodándonos unas con otras y construyamos la estructura de un rico panal. ¡Veréis qué divertido es trabajar en equipo con un fin común!

En este ejercicio de máximos y mínimos, nos encontraremos con la geometría del hexágono y el círculo. Las abejas no saben de hexágonos, pero construyen blandos cilindros que, cuando se juntan, se comprimen con sus seis vecinos hasta que se vuelven hexagonales.

Con el espíritu de la colmena descubriremos la importancia del individuo en la comunidad. La suma de esfuerzos pequeños y la suma de individualidades, conformarán finalmente el panal. En la casa de este enjambre infinito de pequeñas obreras, que liban néctar y producen miel, seguramente encontraremos muchos puntos en común con los humanos y sus modos de agrupación en forma de sociedad.

Pasos:

• Imprime 2 plantillas por cada “abeja” del panal. Se recomienda utilizar un papel grueso.
• Recórtala por la línea continua y dobla por la discontinua.
• Utiliza la grapadora para unir las celdas.
• Imprime algunas plantillas de tapas exagonales y colócalas en las celdas.
• En otra cartulina dibuja una pequeña abeja y ahora… ¿quieres jugar a formar parte de esta comunidad?
