CONQUERING TERRITORY

How could we slow down the occupancy of a territory and maintaining qualities of a modern city?

How can we support/embrace new citizens without expanding our city and depleting our natural resources?

One of the ideas we want to transmit is how nature and cities are directly connected and what kind of consequences they have on one another. Why and where have cities been founded and why they were strategically located near rivers and sometimes protected by mountains.

It is interesting to realize how natural resources help cities to develop from a settlement in to a village and later in to a city. On the other hand it is important to think about how we develop a city while we maintain, respect and take care of it’s natural surroundings. Now is the time to talk about the density of the cities, to maintain a balance between the quantity of citizens the city could host, the area we need to urbanize/occupy and the quality of public spaces, streets and city life. The typology of housing and their morphology (the design of the city, streets, the distance between houses, public services and parks), are the main questions in our modern society that we want to portray to children to get them thinking about their future cities.

We want get children to start thinking about what kind of city they prefer to live happily in, maintaining healthy relationships between themselves and nature.

PLAY THE CITY

Materials needed

• 8 colored papers
  • Blue for the river or the sea (3 sheets)
  • Dark green for the mountains (3 sheets)
  • Light green for urban parks (3 sheets)
  • Grey for roads (3 sheets)
  • Dark Red for big buildings (8 sheets)
  • Dark Pink for the medium-sized buildings (10 sheets)
  • Orange for services (school, hospital, library…) (6 sheets)
  • Light pink for the small houses (4 sheets)

• Scissors
• Stickers

How to build

• Print of the downloaded sheets using colored papers. Each model has a coloured dot, this is the color you have to print it on.
• When you have printed all the models, cut following the dotted lines.
• Fold the buildings along the straight lines and use stickers to hold the model. Watch the video to see how you can do this.
• When you have finished with all the buildings and the natural elements, you can start designing and creating your city.

How to play 

• Start by putting the mountains and river where you want on a big table. These element have to be fixed and you cant move them afterwards.
• When you have decided where these elements are going to be located.
• Start building your city only using small houses and service buildings. When you have finished placing your first city, think about how many families are living there.
• Now change your city using medium-sized houses instead off the small ones, remember the service buildings too. How many families are living there?
• Now is the time to change the medium-sized houses for the large ones, don´t forget to place the service buildings. Once again how many families are living there?
• And last of all, build a new city mixing different types of houses and services. Think about how many people are living there.

CONQUISTANDO EL TERRITORIO

¿Cómo podríamos reducir la ocupación de un territorio y mantener las cualidades de una ciudad moderna?

¿Cómo podemos acoger a nuevos ciudadanos sin expandir nuestra ciudad y agotar nuestros recursos naturales?

Una de las ideas que queremos transmitir es cómo la naturaleza y la ciudad están directamente conectadas y qué tipo de consecuencias tienen entre sí. Nos preguntaremos por qué y dónde se han fundado las ciudades y por qué se situaron estratégicamente cerca de los ríos, incluso a veces, protegidas por las montañas.

Es interesante darse cuenta de cómo los recursos naturales ayudan a las ciudades a crecer y transformarse, partiendo primero de un asentamiento que se convierte en un pueblo y este después, en una ciudad. Por otro lado, es importante pensar en cómo crece una ciudad respetando y cuidando su entorno natural. Ahora es el momento de hablar de la densidad de las ciudades manteniendo un equilibrio entre la cantidad de ciudadanos que la ciudad podría albergar, el área que necesitamos urbanizar u ocupar y la calidad de los espacios públicos, las calles y la vida urbana. Las tipologías de las viviendas y su morfología (el diseño de la ciudad, las calles, la distancia entre las casas, los servicios públicos y los parques) son las principales preguntas en nuestra sociedad moderna que queremos trasladar a las niñas y niños para que piensen en sus futuras ciudades .

Queremos que comiencen a pensar en qué tipo de ciudad prefieren vivir felices, manteniendo siempre una relación saludable con la naturaleza.

JUEGA LA CIUDAD

Materiales necesarios:

• 8 papeles de colores
  • Azul para el río o el mar (3 hojas)
  • Verde oscuro para las montañas (3 hojas)
  • Verde claro para parques urbanos (3 hojas)
  • Gris para carreteras (3 hojas)
  • Rojo oscuro para edificios grandes (8 hojas)
  • Rosa oscuro para los edificios medianos (10 hojas)
  • Naranja para servicios (escuela, hospital, biblioteca …) (6 hojas)
  • Rosa claro para las casas pequeñas (4 hojas)

• Tijeras
• Pegatinas

Cómo construir:

• Imprime las hojas del artículo utilizando papeles de colores. Cada hoja/modelo tiene un punto de color que se corresponde con el color de papel a imprimir.
• Cuando hayas impreso todos los modelos, corta siguiendo las líneas de puntos.
• Dobla los edificios a lo largo de las líneas rectas y usa pegatinas para realizar las uniones. Puedes ver el video para ayudarte a realizar este paso.
• Cuando hayas terminado con todos los edificios y los elementos naturales, puedes comenzar a diseñar y crear tu ciudad.

Cómo jugar:

• En una mesa grande, comienza por colocar las montañas y el río donde tú desees. Estos elementos tienen que ser fijos y no puedes moverlos después.
• Cuando hayas decidido dónde se van a ubicar estos elementos, comienza a construir tu ciudad sólo con casas pequeñas y edificios de servicio. Cuando hayas terminado de colocar tu primera ciudad, piensa en cuántas familias están viviendo allí.
• Ahora cambia tu ciudad usando casas medianas en lugar de las pequeñas, acuérdate de los edificios de servicio también. ¿Cuántas familias viven allí?
• Ahora es el momento de cambiar las casas medianas por las grandes, no olvides colocar los edificios de servicio. Y una vez más ¿cuántas familias viven allí?
• Por último, construye una nueva ciudad mezclando diferentes tipos de viviendas y servicios. Piensa en cuánta gente vive allí.

Hainbat ideia helarazi nahi ditugu, honako hauek, besteak beste: natura eta hiria zuzenean lotuta daude eta elkarri ondorioak eragiten dizkiote. Hiriak zergatik eta non sortu ziren galdetuko diogu geure buruari, eta zergatik kokatu ziren estrategikoki ibaietatik hurbil, eta, batzuetan, mendien babesean.

Asmoa da konturatzea baliabide naturalek hiriei hazten eta eraldatzen laguntzen dietela, egonlekuak herri bihurtuz lehenik, eta hiri, gero. Bestalde, garrantzitsua da pentsatzea nola hazten den hiri bat, ingurune naturala errespetatuz eta zainduz.   • Berde argia, hiriko parkeetarako (3 orri)
  • Grisa, errepideetarako (3 orri)
  • Gorri iluna, eraikin handietarako (8 orri)
  • Arrosa iluna, eraikin ertainetarako (10 orri)
  • Laranja, zerbitzuetarako (ikastetxea, ospitalea, liburutegia…) (6 orri)
  • Arrosa argia, etxe txikietarako (4 orri)

• Eranskailuak

Nola eraiki:

• Inprimatu artikulu orriak koloretako paperak erabiliz. Orri/eredu bakoitzak koloretako puntu bat dauka; kolore horretako paperean inprimatu behar dira.
• Eredu guztiak inprimatu ondoren, ebaki itzazu, puntuen lerroak jarraituz.
• Tolestu eraikinak lerro zuzenetatik eta erabili eranskailuak loturak egiteko. Bideoa ikus dezakezu urrats hori egiten laguntzeko.
• Eraikin eta elementu natural guztiak eraikitzen amaitu ondoren, zure hiria diseinatzeari eta sortzeari ekin diezaiokezu.

Nola jolastu:

• Mahai handi batean, hasteko, jarri mendiak eta ibaia nahi duzun lekuan. Elementu horiek finkoak izan beharko dute, eta ezingo dituzu aldatu gero.
• Elementuok non jarri erabakitakoan, hasi eraikitzen zure hiria, etxe txiki eta zerbitzuetako eraikinekin soilik. Zure lehenengo hiria jartzen amaitutakoan, pentsatu zenbat familia ariko diren bertan bizitzen.
• Orain, aldatu zure hiria, eta etxe txikien ordez, erabili etxe ertainak; gogoratu zerbitzuetako eraikinak jartzeaz. Zenbat familia bizi dira hor?
• Orain, etxe ertainen ordez, etxe handiak jarri behar dira; ez ahaztu zerbitzuetako eraikinak jartzeaz. Beste behin: zenbat familia bizi dira hor?
• Azkenik, eraiki hiri berri bat, etxebizitza eta zerbitzu motak nahasiz. Pentsatu zenbat jende bizi den bertan.
